The Hen House has submitted to the national call for submissions for an Indigenous Voice to have more of a say on the laws, policies and services that impact on First Nations.
We have made a modest submission and encourage you to do the same here
Our Submission
Hen House Co-op Ltd is founded on Kaurna land and we pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging. We recognise this is land that has never been ceded and always will be Aboriginal land.
Hen House Co-op Ltd endorses the call in the Uluru Statement from the Heart for a Makarrata. We also support the call for First Nations to determine how best these voices are heard in the national parliamentary processes and national policy making. We also acknowledge this might lead us into new ways of voices being heard, decisions being made and new ways of working together. We welcome and look forward to being able to support such initiatives.
As an organisation founded on co-op values and principles we actively support all efforts towards self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. We believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. We actively recognise our responsibilities and humble efforts to decolonise our thinking, actions and practices and eager to join with others on that part to ensure a just settlement might one day be possible in Australia.
As a coop created to close the gender investment gap, we are concerned about the lack of financial equity for First Nations women as a percentage of the national purse distributed for investment, funding or spend. We particularly want to acknowledge the women leaders driving change in our nation and are grateful for their leadership, inspiration and courageous pathmaking and healing ways. We yearn to learn more from First Nations people, land and sea to live and build sustainable business models that we can apply to support more opportunities to close the gender investment gap.
